Motivational Monday: Embrace the Lifestyle

This weekend I attended the Gluten Free & Allergy Friendly Wellness Event in Baton Rouge, LA. Check out their site for events in your area!

Carol and I at the Conference. Such a great experience

It was a wonderful experience to meet some others who also avoid gluten, and who have had some similar experiences as me.  Living without gluten is not an easy transition for some and having others to support you is really important!

One of my favorite people I met this weekend was Carol Kicinski, the publisher of Simply Gluten Free magazine. She spoke about embracing this lifestyle and finding enjoyment in every food experience. Here are a few things she said that I thought were worth sharing:

Remove the toxicity from your life

Carol said after removing the toxic gluten from her body, it helped her remove the toxic people as well. She recognized what people didn’t support her, and removed them.

Listen to your body

The number one rule should always be “listen to your body”. You don’t need a Celiac diagnosis to remove gluten from your diet. If you feel better without it, don’t eat it. Pay attention to how your body reacts to food.

Don’t be afraid to be a diva

When at a restaurant, it is okay to let them know you cannot have gluten on your plate. They are in the service business, so they should cater to your allergy or preference.

She also spoke about our relationship with food. Instead of looking at all the things you can’t eat, look at the things you can. Going gluten free can still be delicious!
